Find cleaners in any market — a repeatable playbook for every city and country you operate in

    Operations → Cleaners~7 min read · ~15 min to launch a market
Staffing a new city is usually the slowest part of expanding, because it means starting a hiring process from scratch every time. It doesn't have to. Rentology gives you one link that turns any job board in any country — Craigslist, Gumtree, Mudah, OCC, eBay Kleinanzeigen, Seek — into the top of a structured funnel: applicants fill in a real screening form themselves, arrive scored and tagged by market, get invited to a paid test clean in two clicks, and end up on your roster with their documents on file. The same eight steps work in Atlanta, London, Kuala Lumpur, and Mexico City.

    Steps

    8 steps
    1. 1Decide the market and name it. A market is however you think about a service area — a metro ('Metro Atlanta'), a city ('Kuala Lumpur'), or a district ('London — South West'). Pick the name you'd use in conversation; you'll reuse it on every post for that area, and it becomes the tag you filter applicants by later.
    2. 2Generate the post. Operations → Cleaners → Cleaners tab → 'Recruit cleaning partners'. Type the market name, click Generate job post. You get ready-to-paste ad copy that already names your company, describes the work honestly (steady scheduled turnovers, clear per-property rates, jobs on their phone, fast payment), and ends with your apply link — carrying the market tag. Edit it freely: adjust rates, add a neighbourhood, translate it. It's a starting point, not a locked template.
    3. 3Post it where cleaners in that country actually look. The link is a plain URL, so it works on any board, in any language, on any continent. The 'If something's off' section below lists the boards that actually carry cleaning work country by country — and post to two or three at once, because reach differs wildly by country.
    4. 4Let applicants do the work. Everyone who clicks lands on your application page and fills in a 7-step form themselves: company details, short-term-rental experience, coverage area and travel time, per-bedroom pricing, services, and compliance (insurance, tax form readiness, business licence). Nobody on your team types a single applicant record. Every submission arrives in Cleaners → New Applications, stamped with the market it came from.
    5. 5Read the scorecard instead of the pile. Each application gets a 0–100 score built from the answers — experience, availability (same-day, weekends, backup crew), compliance readiness, professionalism (photo checklists, own supplies, references), coverage clarity, and scale. Twenty applications become a ranked shortlist in about a minute. Filter by market to work one city at a time, then call your top few straight from the row — the call goes out on your business line and is logged.
    6. 6Invite the best to a paid test clean. Click the flask icon, choose the properties, set a date for each and the rate you'll pay. Rentology creates real jobs, moves the applicant to Trial, and sends them the details by email and text, including their login to your cleaner app. This is the step that separates a good interview from a good cleaner: you're buying one real turnover's worth of evidence — photos, timing, and the quality of the finished room — before you commit a property to anyone.
    7. 7Judge the work, then collect the paperwork. Review the before/after photos under the Photos tab. Record the verdict on the application: Pass automatically emails the applicant a 5-minute Readiness Check to upload their tax form and liability insurance certificate (both are read and checked automatically for validity, name match, and expiry); Fail records the outcome and closes the file. Approve them once the documents are on the Compliance tab — and approval texts them their app invite.
    8. 8Assign properties and let the operation run. Give each property a primary and a backup cleaner. From then on every guest checkout creates a turnover, the primary is assigned automatically and notified on WhatsApp with an SMS fallback, they confirm in one tap, and their standing assignment unlocks that property's door codes, WiFi, parking and checklist in the app. Repeat the eight steps for the next city; nothing about them is country-specific.

The only thing that changes between countries is where you paste the link. Each market's post carries its own tag, so applications arrive pre-sorted and each city's pipeline can be reviewed on its own.

    If something's off

    • If you're opening a market in the United States — start with Craigslist — still the highest-volume board for cleaning work in most US metros (Jobs posts run roughly $10–75, Gigs $3–10, varying by city). Add Indeed (3 free posts per calendar month, though free posts lose visibility fast) and Facebook Groups for your metro. Facebook's own jobs product relaunched in October 2025 as Local Jobs, US only — but applications run through Messenger with no external apply-link field, so it can't carry your link; post in Groups instead. Nextdoor has no jobs product at all: it's for finding service providers, not hiring them.
    • If you're opening a market in the United Kingdom — Gumtree is the closest equivalent to Craigslist and the strongest for cleaning work (about £15 + VAT for a 30-day ad, with well over a thousand live cleaner listings). Add Indeed UK and local Facebook Groups, plus the free government board Find a job. Do NOT use Checkatrade or Bark — both are customer lead-generation directories where tradespeople pay to be found by homeowners, so posting there advertises that you want to BUY cleaning, not hire a cleaner.
    • If you're opening a market in Malaysia — Mudah.my is the dominant classifieds site; JobStreet reaches more formal applicants, and Facebook groups (per-city 'cleaner'/'part time' groups) carry real volume. WhatsApp is the assumed channel there — which suits Rentology, since job offers go out WhatsApp-first with SMS fallback.
    • If you're opening a market in Mexico — lead with Computrabajo (free tier) and Bumeran (a few free postings a month), plus local Facebook Groups and WhatsApp referral chains, which carry more weight there than any board. OCC — formerly OCC Mundial — charges per vacancy and skews white-collar, so it's rarely the right audience for turnover cleaning. The free government board empleo.gob.mx is worth adding. Translate the generated post into Spanish before posting; edit it in the box, the link stays the same.
    • If you're operating elsewhere — the pattern is always the same: one big national classifieds site, one job board, and local Facebook Groups. Germany: Kleinanzeigen.de (the site formerly called eBay Kleinanzeigen — it was renamed in 2023; category Gebäudereinigung & Raumpflege) + Indeed.de + the free federal JOBBÖRSE. Canada: Kijiji (it has a real Cleaning & Housekeeping jobs category) + Job Bank. Australia and New Zealand: Gumtree AU + SEEK, with Trade Me Jobs a strong second in NZ. Spain: Milanuncios + InfoJobs. Portugal: OLX (Emprego → Domésticos e Limpezas) + Net-Empregos, which is free. Malaysia: Mudah.my + Jobstreet by SEEK, which has offered free basic listings since 2024. Philippines: Jobstreet PH + Facebook Groups. If a board takes a URL, it takes your apply link.
    • If you want to know which platform actually produced your hires — generate a separate post per platform with a slightly different market label — 'Atlanta — Craigslist', 'Atlanta — FB Groups'. The market tag then doubles as a source tag, and the market filter shows you which board is worth repeating.
    • If you get lots of applications but few good ones — read the scorecard breakdown rather than the totals — a market full of 40-somethings usually means one weak category across the board (often compliance or photo-checklist willingness). Adjust the ad to name that expectation explicitly up front; it filters before people apply.
    • If you get very few applications — check three things in order: is the post live and not shadow-buried (repost after a few days — most boards decay fast), does the ad name a rate range (posts without money get skipped), and is the market label matching where the properties actually are. Cleaners filter by commute more than anything else.
    • If an applicant has no company, insurance, or tax form — that's normal for an individual cleaner and not a reason to skip them — the score reflects it, and the Readiness Check walks them through obtaining and uploading what you require before they're approved. Decide your own floor: some operators require liability insurance, others accept individuals for smaller portfolios.
    • If you already have cleaners and just want the app adopted — you don't need the recruiting half at all. Assign each cleaner as a property's primary — the assignment itself texts them the app link with their login code, and their standing assignment unlocks that property's access details in the app.
    • If you operate in more than one currency or language — rates in the generated post are text you edit, so type them in your own currency. The applicant form, the invitations, and the app follow your workspace's settings — nothing here assumes a US operation.
    • If you already have one good cleaner in the market — ask them for referrals before you post anything. It is the cheapest and highest-converting channel there is, it compounds, and in Mexico, Brazil, the Philippines and among immigrant workforces in the US, UK and Germany a WhatsApp referral chain reaches people no job board does. A modest bonus paid quickly converts better than a large one paid at six months.
    • If you are hiring in Germany — check the sectoral minimum before you name a rate. Building cleaning (Gebäudereinigung) has its own binding minimum wage above the general statutory floor, and it binds by the activity performed, not by job title. Posting below it is not a negotiating position — it is unlawful.
    • If you are hiring somewhere with licensed-agency rules — some countries route domestic and cleaning labour through licensed recruitment offices (the UAE's Tadbeer system, for example). A public apply link is the wrong instrument there — check local rules before running this playbook in an unfamiliar jurisdiction.
